Ed Potters will be teaching two courses this Fall:

DRAWING FOR THE BEGINNER AND MORE

This class is designed for students who have a basic knowledge of drawing and those who wish to improve their skills. The principal of the instruction is that with practice, over time we can learn how to draw anything from still life to figures as well as landscape and abstractions. The intent is to have each student learn the tools needed to begin expressing his or her own voice. Instruction will focus on the primary elements of drawing. These are line, texture, scale, composition, form, subject, value (lights and darks) and point of view. The class will begin by examining simple line or contour drawing, eventually advancing to more detailed renderings of still life and the human form.

Additional references will include the use some discussion and examples of a how established artists create their work and how that work impacts the lives of the viewer.

TIME: TUESDAY, 7PM – 8:00PM
DATES: 10/6, 10/13, 10/20, 10/27, 11/3, 11/10

LOCATION: Teen Center, Horseshoe Lake, Succasunna
COST: $160.00

DRAWING WHAT YOU SEE (Adults and Teens)

This course is designed to allow a student to draw anything. By utilizing the essential components of drawing; line, form, composition and subject, the student can learn to draw what he sees. The notion is that by simply extracting from the subject lights and darks, scale, and proportion the student can put down on paper exactly what he sees before him. Some of the tools we will use to achieve a successful rendering are the grid, used by the masters of the Renaissance, cropping, and visualization. We will also learn why we use various drawing tools to achieve a desired effect.

TIME: THURSDAY, 7PM – 8:00PM
DATES: 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29, 11/5. 11/12
