The deadline to apply for this year’s “The Star Next Door” singing competition has been extended until January 31
“If you missed the opportunity to apply for the singing competition, you are in luck,” said the non-profit group.” It noted that thousands in prize money is at stake in honor of the 10th anniversary of the Investors Bank Theater – the place in Succasunna where the Arts Alliance holds events.
“Looking for the top vocal talent from the New Jersey area, the RAA is offering over $2,100 in prize money to the top three finalists in a competition that will be completed during a special final event at the Investor’s Bank Theater, on Saturday night March 23, 2019,” said the RAA.
The competition, sponsored by Fullerton Grounds Maintenance, begins with the application process. Initially, the deadline to apply was January 18.
“The competition focuses on solo performers; it is not open to full bands (although vocalists may be accompanied by up to three musicians),” noted the RAA. “All styles of music are welcome, from folk to soft rock, jazz and blues, and everything in between.”
Four judges will select 20 semi-finalists and their videos will be shared on Facebook. The contestant receiving the most “likes” on the RAA Facebook Page will get into the finals.
The Facebook posts will take place from Feb. 23 through March 8. The 12 finalists will consist of the winner of the most likes on the Roxbury Arts Alliance Facebook page and the other eleven will be chosen by the panel of judges, said the RAA. The finalists will be notified by email on March 10 and they will compete in the final event on March 23 at 7:30 pm.
$1,010 will be awarded to the winner, second place will get $710 and the third place award is $410. To be eligible for the cash prizes, those selected by the judges must perform live on March 23.
“In 2017, we celebrated the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Roxbury Arts Alliance by sponsoring our first singing competition,” said RAA President Sarah Coraggio. “We had a lot of great talent and they put on a great show. This year we are celebrating 10 years of the Investors Bank Theater opening its doors.”
There is a non-refundable fee of $20 per entry. Applications must include the title of the piece to be performed, a photo and a video, as well as other details as outlined in the application.
